The interim coach of Tunisia, Kaïs Yaâkoubi, made serious accusations against his neighbors Morocco and Algeria, after the defeat of his team against Gambia (1-0), in the framework of the qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations. According to him, the federations of the two countries “buy” the dual nationals so that they join their selections.
Kaïs Yaâkoubi, a bit of a bad loser? The Tunisian technician made shocking remarks which sparked a lively controversy in the Maghreb. During the post-match conference of Tunisia which lost to Gambia, thus losing its place as leader of group A, the former USMA coach deemed it useful to attack his neighbors , Morocco and Algeria, in order to be guilty of its defeat.
The Ailes de Carthage coach estimated that the Moroccan and Algerian selections are more efficient because they “buy” the dual nationals. In his explanations, Yaâkoubi even got confused, naming a player of Algerian origin who, moreover, never played with the Fennecs.
“Why is the national team no longer performing well? You have to ask the right questions,” he began by declaring before making allusions and the methods practiced according to him by the other Maghreb selections with the dual nationals. “Do you believe that Algeria and Morocco bring back binational players, like Gouiri and Cherki (who has never been in the Algerian selection, editor’s note) for free? No, absolutely no”he said.
The Tunisian coach goes even further and hopes that “that the Tunisian Football Federation (FTF) will implement the same similar strategy to seek out “first rank” footballers.
A failed media release without concrete basis, which is already causing a scandal on social networks and which risks costing him dearly.
