The Boston Bruins fired head coach Jim Montgomery on Tuesday afternoon.
Associate coach Joe Sacco will take his place.
The Bruins are going through a rough patch these days, having won just one of their last five games. They also suffered a tough 5-1 loss at the hands of the poor Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday evening.
The team is currently in fourth place in the Atlantic Division with a record of 8-9-3, for 19 points.
The Quebec coach made headlines last month when he garlanded his captain Brad Marchand in the middle of a match.
Hired at the dawn of the 2022-2023 season, Montgomery led the Bruins to a record campaign that year, with a record of 65-12-5 for a collection of 135 points.
The Bruins also did well under him last season, amassing 47 wins and 109 points.
It was in the playoffs that things got complicated for Montgomery and the Bruins, as the team was eliminated twice in a row by the Florida Panthers, in the first round in 2023, and in the second last spring.
In 184 games at the helm of the Bruins, Montgomery has accumulated a record of 120-41-23.
He also managed the Dallas Stars for a season and a half between 2018 and 2020.
