She did it! From November 4 to 7, 2024, Chahrazed, 40 years old, resident of Villepreux (Yvelines), participated in the Marathon des sables in the Jordanian desert.
With a particularity: this mother of four children suffers from multiple sclerosis, a disease which attacks his nervous system.
” A silent illnesssays this orthoptist and clinical research coordinator by profession. I was diagnosed by chance in 2013. I have been in treatment since 2017.”
“I had no more strength…”
Chahrazed embarked on this adventure with the objective of “ prove to people that I can walk. Like revenge for my illness,” she adds.
The choice to complete this challenge by walking rather than running quickly became clear.
“I can continue to run but I will be stopped by loss of sensitivity. This makes me lose my bearings. »
120 km in the desert in three stages
Equipped with her backpack and Nordic walking poles, Chahrazed had to cover 120 km in three stages, between saber dunes and rocky paths.
The first 30 km stage served as a test. “I understood how I had to adapt my walking. »
After a short night at the bivouac, the Villepreusienne set off for the second 60 km long stage. The big part of this race. A true suffering.
“I had blisters everywhere, I felt tired. I had no more strength…”
Finally, by “putting one foot in front of the other, in robot mode”, Chahrazed managed to cross the finish line at 3am. After 20 hours of walking!
After a good day of rest, the walker set off again for the final 30 km stage. On arrival, the Yvelinoise was able to savor her “finisher” medal (finisher).
“The medal is symbolic of having done it. Even if the illness advances, I was able to do it, rejoices the person concerned. It was a very intense human and sporting adventure. »
To share out ? “I give myself time”
Since returning to Villepreux with his family, Chahrazed took a few days to recover. “I was exhausted, I was only doing sleep. »
Before getting back into fitness. And to start again on a new challenge? “I’ll give myself time. Maybe I will do a Marathon des Sables again but I will be better prepared, she assures us. Now I know my weak points. »
