Work on the development of the Fez El-Kébir Stadium continues at a sustained pace to provide it with the latest international specifications, as part of the Kingdom’s preparation for hosting major sporting events.

2025 African Cup Final

These improvements include the addition of touches that reflect the historical and cultural dimension of the city of Fez. The National Society for Construction and Management of Sports Facilities (Sonargis) is overseeing the stadium repair process, which will take place in two stages. The first phase began in January this year with the aim of preparing the stadium to host the 2025 Africa Cup finals.

It includes improvements to clothing warehouses, main entrances and some internal facilities. The second phase will begin after the end of this continental tournament and will include the removal of the rubber ring, the lowering of the ground level and its complete covering, as well as the modernization of the car parks to increase their capacity, the works being completed by 2028.

Stadium lighting

According to informed sources, the construction of a large part of the stadium’s glass facade, considered one of the most striking modern elements, has been completed. This facade will contribute to the natural lighting of the stadium during the day, in addition to the natural lighting of the stadium. external improvements which include the installation of a temporary fabric cover to protect it from the elements during the day. Preparations are also underway on the sides of the stadium to add green spaces to beautify it.

The application file indicates that the stadium will see an increase in its capacity from 45,000 seats to 49,200 seats, with the possibility of reaching 55,800 seats, thus becoming the fourth largest stadium in the Kingdom by 2030.

FIFA Standards

The updates will include removing the rubber ring and lowering the ground level, which will provide greater comfort for fans during matches, in addition to completely covering it in accordance with FIFA standards.

As the development work progresses, details of the project will be revealed later, which is considered a candidate to become one of the best stadiums in the World Cup, with a Moroccan design that reflects nobility and deep history of the city of Fez.
