After his victory this weekend at the Cross d'Allonnes, Jimmy Gressier once again displayed his unfortunate talent. So the opportunity was too good to return to the greatest feat of arms of his career. His titles? No. His European records? Neither. But his panache for arrivals.
Jimmy Gressier and the quack of the puddle
It's 2018, and the European Cross Country Championships are taking place in Tilburg, Netherlands. Jimmy Gressier has a comfortable lead over second, and therefore has plenty of time to take advantage of his victory. He then asks for French flags to make his success even more symbolic, and to push us even further. A tricolor flag in each hand, he runs the last few meters with a smile on his face, proud of his performance. He doesn't know it yet, but the most prestigious one is to come.
Just before the finish line, a huge puddle of mud lies in its path. So Jimmy doesn't think twice, and decides to send his best knee slide. The panache we told you. Except that the result is even more legendary than he projected; said slide experiences a hiccup, and he ends up with his head in the finishing line. More than ever, a picture is worth a thousand words.
