The Olympic champion of the discipline was, however, not selected by Word Rugby for that of best player in the world at XV.
Who will succeed All Black Ardie Savea, named best player in the world in 2023? One thing is certain: it will not be Antoine Dupont. As Le Figaro announced, the Toulouse player was not selected by World Rugby, which only takes international matches into account. However, due to the Olympic project, he did not participate in the 2024 Six Nations Tournament, nor in the summer tour in Argentina, only returning to the French XV, and the captaincy, two weeks ago for the autumn tour tests against Japan and New Zealand.
Voted best player in the world in 2021, this year he has already been named best player in the Champions Cup (the European club cup) and player of the year in the Top 14, two competitions which he won with Toulouse stadium.
On the other hand, Antoine Dupont is one of the three players nominated for the title of best player in the world at 7. He is in the running with another French Olympic champion, Aaron Grandidier Nkanang (now a winger at the Section Paloise) and the Irish Terry Kennedy .
Three South Africans and an Irishman in the running
For the crown of best player in the world 2024 at XV, voters will have to decide between three South Africans (Eben Etzebeth, Cheslin Kolbe and Pieter-Steph du Toit, already winner in 2019) and an Irishman, the third row Caelan Doris.
On the French side, Pauline Bourdon Sansus, scrum half of the Bleues, is one of the nominees with the English Ellie Kildunne and Alex Matthews, as well as the Canadian Alex Tessler.
Finally, among the tries selected for the title of best of the year, we find the one scored by Nolann Le Garrec against England, at the end of the 2024 Six Nations Tournament. Gaël Fickou pierces the first defensive curtain, follows up with a fake pass before serving Léo Barré. The Parisian rear accelerates and serves the Racingman with a gem of an offload.
