Mathieu Olivier remains a young, very articulate 27-year-old veteran who has never been recruited by an NHL franchise. Olivier instead signed a pact as a free agent with the Nashville Predators on February 1, 2019. A two-year pact and $1.46 million to play a bully role. A role that he plays wonderfully, he who is recognized by his peers as one of the best in his profession.

Olivier is also a good hockey player due to his overall refined hockey sense, which allows him to make excellent reads. Moreover, before the start of this 2024-25 calendar, Rick Nash, president of hockey operations for the Jackets, put his fist on the table in order to impose one thing on his head coach (Dean Evason): that Mathieu Olivier plays all the matches.

This information was delivered by Renaud Lavoie on TVA Sports:

The 6-foot-2 number 24 is on pace to have the best season of his career, already posting five goals and seven points in 17 games. Evason uses it for an average of 12 minutes 50, which shows that his style is appreciated by the club’s pilot and his acolytes. It is not only good at providing more exciting boxing fights than the chamaillage between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson…

That said, Arber Xhekaj gives Olivier a lot of respect, indicating that he remains a real tough guy:

About this dance with the SheriffOlivier, who used vocabulary worthy of a poet, also expressed his admiration for number 72 of the blue-white-red:

In the end, since he will become an unrestricted free agent next summer, isn’t now the time to transplant an abrasive forward, who knows how to play hockey, to Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens?
