France found color again: it won 3-1 in Milan against Italy in the League of Nations. This allowed him to finish at the top of Group 2 of League A.
Mute against Israel on Thursday, Didier Deschamps’ players reacted well. For his 50th selection, Adrien Rabiot opened the scoring in the 2nd on a corner kicked by Lucas Digne. The latter was also involved in the visitors’ second goal, his free kick hitting the bar and falling into the back of the net via the back of goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario (33rd).
Italy responded shortly after with Andrea Cambiaso (35th). Definitely a master of the air, Rabiot put the Blues back two steps ahead (65th), on a new pass from Digne, who also wore the national jersey for the 50th time. Note that France’s three successes came from set plays.
England and Norway promoted to League A
For its part, England secured its promotion to League A of the Nations League. At Wembley, the Three Lions beat Eire 5-0 to finish top of Group 2 of League B ahead of Greece.
Led for the last time by interim Lee Carsley, who will be replaced on January 1 by Thomas Tuchel, the English had to wait a little more than half-time to break the Irish resistance. Harry Kane (53rd/pen), Anthony Gordon (56th), Conor Gallagher (58th), Jarrod Bowen (76th) and Taylor Harwood-Bellis (79th) scored, taking advantage of the expulsion of Liam Scales, who received a second yellow card for the penalty action.
Norway also gained promotion to Group A. Their 5-0 success against Kazakhstan, including three goals from Erling Haaland, ensured them first place in Group 3 ahead of Austria.
