Cole Caufield has been doing what he has been asked to do since the start of the season.

The Canadian sniper has scored 12 goals in 16 games, which places him (tied) at the top of the best scorers in the National League.

But even if he is on fire and he scores goals by the ton, his place in the American squad for the 4 Nations Tournament is not guaranteed.

In fact, it’s worse: according to what Pierre LeBrun said duringhttps://twitter.com/TSNHockey/status/1857182332353904919Caufield would not be part of the plans of American leaders for the moment.

The insider maintains that things have time to change in the next two weeks… But that at the moment, Caufield would not be part of the team if the tournament started today:

We know that Cole Caufield is an excellent goal scorer.

He has one of the good shots in the National League and we’ve known that since he made his debut in a Flannel uniform.

But we also know that Cole Caufield is a fairly one-dimensional player.

The forward is not necessarily the most responsible on the ice because he does not have a great stick and because his defensive qualities are correct… And there are American players of his style who can score and who are reliable in all three areas of the rink.

Does Caufield’s size play a role in this too? It is logical to believe that yes.

The clubs in Finland and Sweden are likely to be big and quite heavy, after all. And in this context, it would be logical to see the Canadian and American nations build their training accordingly.

Finally, remember that the deadline for sending the official alignment is December 2. If Caufield wants to participate in the tournament, he has no choice but to score in all of the Canadiens’ games between now and then…
