KRC Genk suffered a heavy defeat last weekend against Union SG. Despite this, the Limburgers remain alone at the top of the ranking and maintain their course towards the title. During the short winter break, the club intends to leave nothing to chance.
A start to the season under question
The four-time Belgian champion started this season with several uncertainties. During the summer transfer window, Genk had to part ways with several pillars, including Maarten Vandevoordt, Bilal El Khannouss, Mark McKenzie and Matias Galarza, who all left the club.
Arrival of Fink and new dynamic
With the arrival of Thorsten Fink as new coach and several reinforcements at the Cegeka Arena, Genk was able to overcome these upheavals by starting the season in brilliant fashion. Currently, the club leads the standings with a five-point lead.
Fink requests a preparation course
Despite the defeat at Duden Park, Genk still seems well placed for the title race, especially since it escapes the physical and mental fatigue of European competitions, unlike several of its competitors. But Fink wants to avoid any surprises. Although the winter break only lasts two weeks, the German coach wanted to organize a training camp before the season resumes, a request which the club accepted. According to The Importance of LimburgRacing will travel to Spain at the beginning of January.
An express stay in Spain
Right after the last match of December in the Jupiler Pro League, the players will have around six days of rest, before returning to training on January 2 in Algorfa, Spain. This course will, however, end on January 6, with the main objective of strengthening cohesion and relationships within the team, without much time for in-depth physical and tactical sessions.
