Canadians: with his double on Monday, Cole Caufield moves solo to the top scorers (NHL)

Cole Caufield’s natural scoring skills continue to be one of the main sources of joy for the Montreal Canadiens, despite a chaotic period to say the least on a collective level.

With his double scored Monday afternoon in the 7-5 victory against the Buffalo Sabres, Caufield now has a dozen goals to his record in 16 games.

This is enough for No. 13 of the Habs to take solo first place in the NHL scoring column.

The American winger’s current pace adjusted to a full 82-game schedule would give him a total of 61 goals.

Caufield’s best rate of production came during the 2022-2023 season, when shoulder surgery ended his campaign when he had scored 26 goals in 46 games (46 goals in 82 games).

His closest pursuers, Nikita Kucherov, Sam Reinhart and William Nylander, all have eleven goals to their name.

Kucherov and the Tampa Bay Lightning don’t play again until Thursday, while Reinhart and Nylander will have the opportunity to join Caufield or ahead of him as early as Tuesday.
