The arrival of Couhaib Driouech with the selection of the Netherlands Espoirs is complicated. Summoned to take part in matches with the Oranje U23, the Atlas Lion Cub does not seem eligible to play in the Dutch jersey.
Couhaib Driouech will not appear at Zeist for the Dutch Juniors this week. The PSV winger has been called up by coach Michael Reiziger, but does not appear eligible to play, KNVB reports.
The Atlas Lion Cub has already played official matches with Morocco’s U23s, which would delay his arrival with the Dutch.
Indeed, a formal transfer procedure is necessary for Driouech to be able to play in the Netherlands’ representative youth teams.
“As the Dutch Juniors have training matches scheduled in November – and no official matches – the assumption was that such a procedure was not necessary. Now that it appears to be the case, Driouech has decided not to make himself available at this time,” wrote the KNVB in a press release.
Driouech joined PSV this summer from Excelsior. Currently, he is content with a few appearances as a substitute with the leading club in the Eredivisie. However, that was enough to convince Reiziger, who called him up for the friendly matches against the youth teams of Slovakia and England.
