TV rights: the LFP board of directors postponed to June 21

The endless series of Ligue 1 broadcasting rights has not yet delivered its verdict. But two months before the resumption of the season, time is running out. To take stock of the matter, or perhaps even decide if possible, a board of directors of the LFP was convened this Thursday, June 20. But according to our information, it was finally postponed by 24 hours and will be held this Friday, June 21, in the morning, by videoconference. Scheduling issues led to this postponement.

Friday, the date of the council, the League will have moved forward on its plan B, a 100% L1 channel distributed non-exclusively by all operators, ISPs (Internet service providers), that is to say Free, Bouygues, SFR, Orange… or even DAZN, which seeks to develop on the French market, Amazon Prime Video, interested in maintaining L1 in its offer, or even other platforms. The LFP teams have been holding numerous meetings over the past ten days to verify the financial feasibility of this channel and convince club presidents to embark on the adventure.

In any case, they may not have a choice because plan A (still a 100% L1 antenna, but made by beIN Sports and distributed exclusively by the Canal group) seems to have stalled. Notably because Canal+ is not ready, for the moment, to increase the amounts of the beIN Sports distribution contract which would give the Franco-Qatari broadcaster room to maneuver in dealing with the LFP.
