The Spanish club Villarreal confirmed on Sunday that its Moroccan striker, Ilias Akhomach, suffers from a ruptured cruciate ligament in his right knee, contracted on Saturday during the match counting for the 13th day of La Liga.
The Moroccan international, who left the field on a stretcher during his team’s victory against Alavés (3-0), “suffers from a complete rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and a sprain of the internal lateral ligament of his knee right,” specifies the Spanish club on the social network X.
This serious injury to the Atlas Lions striker could keep him away from the field for the rest of the season, according to the Spanish press.
Akhomach was injured in the final stretch of the first half, just after scoring his team’s first goal with a powerful left-footed strike to the far post.
The player posted a message in which he anticipated what was going to happen: “I will come back stronger, have no doubt about it.”
Born on April 16, 2004 in the Catalan town of Els Hostalets de Pierola, Ilias Akhomach, who played 31 games for the first team last season, will be operated on in the coming days, it is reported.
