Already on the hot seat since the heavy defeat against Fiorentina at the end of October, Ivan Juric was sacked this Sunday by AS Roma after another failure, this time against Bologna (2-3). The club could bring in Roberto Mancini to replace him.
One defeat too many. Ivan Juric could not resist the new failure of AS Roma, who lost 3-2 on their Olimpico pitch against Bologna this Sunday. The Croatian coach was sacked less than an hour after the final whistle. He had already been on borrowed time for several meetings.
“We would like to thank Ivan Juric for the hard work he has done in recent weeks. He has handled a difficult environment with the utmost professionalism and we are grateful to him. We wish him the best for his future,” writes the club in a brief press release.
Mancini back in Italy?
Since Roma’s heavy 5-1 defeat against Fiorentina on October 27, Ivan Juric has staked his future in almost every match. Since then, the club from the Italian capital beat Torino (1-0), lost 3-2 against Hellas Verona and drew 1-1 against Union Saint-Gilloise in the Europa League. But the new defeat this Sunday, despite a double from El Shaaraway, sealed the future of the technician.
“The search for a new manager of the technical area has already started and will be announced in the coming days,” concludes AS Roma in its press release. Among the avenues mentioned to succeed Juric is the name of Roberto Mancini, recently sacked from his post as Saudi Arabia coach. According to information from Sky Sports Italia, he is one of the main targets of the Giallorossi and contacts have even already been made with the 59-year-old technician.
Mancini would like a contract lasting several years and would therefore not be interested in the interim role. He would also ask for guarantees on the market to be provided during the next sessions, starting with the one in January. Other names like Edin Terzić, Massimiliano Allegri, Frank Lampard or Graham Potter are also said to be under consideration.
