Having fallen seriously ill and hospitalized at the beginning of June, the former England striker trained at Arsenal, Kevin Campbell, died on Saturday at the age of 54.

His death was confirmed by his former teammate at Nottingham Forest, Mark Crossley, and then his former clubs. “Life is so cruel,” wrote on X, Mark Crossley, who said he was “devastated” by the disappearance of the Englishman. “He was a gentleman, a great player, a radiant person in the locker room, a good guy.” Kevin Campbell fell seriously ill and had to be hospitalized in a worrying state of health at the beginning of June.

Trained at Arsenal, he was the subject of several loans before flaming with the Gunners until 1994. With the London club, Campbell won five trophies including the Premier League (1991) and the late Cup Winners’ Cup in 1994. He scored in the semi-final second leg against PSG. The legendary Ian Wright’s accomplice scored 55 goals in 210 games with Arsenal.

Kevin Campbell also played with Nottingham Forest (1995-1998) and wore the colors of Trazonspor, his only experience abroad (1998-1999), Everton (1999-2005), West Bromwich (2005-2006) and finally from Cardiff, the last club of his career (2006-2007). Although he has never been selected with the Three Lions, he has four caps with the England U21s.
