After four consecutive victories, Lausanne fell back to earth on the Winterthur pitch by losing 1-0 on Saturday in the Super League. Yverdon also fell back at home against a sovereign FC Basel (4-1).
A goal from Fabian Frei in the 51st minute was enough to bring happiness to the bottom side, whom Lausanne beat 2-0 at home on October 20. The ex-Swiss international scored a beautiful curling shot which found its way into Karlo Letica’s top corner.
The Zurich residents, largely beaten by Basel last weekend at the Schützenwiese (5-0), did not steal this success, as LS lacked ideas during the majority of the game. Only a shot from Kaly Sène at the penalty spot (80th), firmly deflected by Stefanos Kapino, worried Ognjen Zaric’s men.
Yverdon sinks at home
Yverdon, for his part, sank on his lawn. Alessandro Mangiarratti’s men were beaten 4-1 by a rising FC Basel. Reduced to 10 after the expulsion of Anthony Sauthier, who played his 100th match in the Yverdon jersey, the Nord-Vaudois quickly cracked under the Rhineland assaults.
Dominik Schmid (32nd) and Bénie Traoré (45th+1), on a pass from Xherdan Shaqiri, gave the visitors two steps ahead at half-time. Leon Avdullahu (51st) and Kevin Carlos (60th), for his return to the Municipal Stadium, added to the bill after returning from the locker room. Mauro Rodrigues saved Yverdon’s honor at the end of the match (89th).
With 5 victories in the last 6 matches and the best attack in the championship (35 goals scored), Basel confirms its return to the forefront. Fabio Celestini’s men are even provisionally leaders while awaiting the Servette – Zurich clash on Saturday evening (8:30 p.m.).
