The Nashville Predators caused a major surprise on Saturday afternoon by registering the name of defenseman Dante Fabbro on waivers. The 31 other teams in the National Hockey League (NHL) can try to claim it by Sunday, 2 p.m.
The Montreal Canadiens’ lack of depth on right defense could prompt Kent Hughes to claim this former first-round pick, 17e overall in 2016, and a product of Boston University in the NCAA.
Fabbro, 26, has been shut out in six games this season; he has a differential of -3. Predators head coach Andrew Brunette clearly doesn’t trust him, since Fabbro is by far the least used guard in his squad this season with an average playing time of 13 minutes and six seconds.
Last season, this average was more like 16 minutes and 21 seconds.
After spending huge amounts of money on 1is Last July, the Predators had a terrible start to the season and at the time of writing were on 32e and last place in the overall NHL rankings.
Rumor has been circulating for several days that the Canadiens would like to make a transaction to improve their roster. Currently, there are two left-handed defenders who play on the right for the Habs, Kaiden Guhle and Jayden Struble.
Note that since 1is November, it is the reverse ranking of this season which determines the order of priority of the teams on waivers. Before 1is November, it was the reverse classification of the previous season which took place. Only the Sharks would have priority over CH to claim Fabbro.
