Frenchman Bakary Samake remained undefeated in the super welterweight division by dominating Chilean Julio Alamos despite the inconvenience of a mouthguard purchased at the last minute and not suitable.
Bakary Samake lifted the Zenith on Thursday by sending his opponent to the mat a few seconds before the end of the fight. The Frenchman defeated the Chilean Julio Alamos with a terrible left hook (he was not counted as KO due to lack of time) to continue his superb series of invincibility among super-welterweight (16 victories in as many fights).
He won on points (97-91, 97-91, 96-92) despite some discomfort during the exchanges.
“I lacked a little precision,” he confided after the match. “On top of that, my mouthguard was bothering me. We hadn’t bought a mouthguard, so we bought a mouthguard from Decathlon and it didn’t fit me. I had to putting it in my glove was annoying, it bothered me throughout the round, it’s a headache but we deal with it, we’re not complaining.”
The boxer from Gagny (Seine Saint-Denis), 36th in the world in his category, appeared relieved after this well-controlled success against the 40th in the world. “Zenith has woken up, I want to thank everyone, you gave me strength from start to finish,” he said. “He’s a formidable opponent, I didn’t think he would be so tough but I knew he had experience. He’s tough as hell. Strength to him, thank you for this fight.”
