Across the NHL: Matvei Michkov in the stands, David Perron in Senators training

Philadelphia Flyers rookie Matvei Michkov will watch tonight’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning from the stands.

The Flyers decided to exclude the rookie from the roster.

“It’s a decision that’s part of the process,” explained head coach John Tortorella. “We are trying to help him. »

The move comes after Michkov was benched for part of the Flyers’ game against the St. Louis Blues last week and again Tuesday against the Carolina Hurricanes. His assist in Tuesday’s loss ended a four-game drought after he had nine points in his first eight games.

Selected seventh overall in the 2023 draft, Michkov has established himself as the favorite for the Calder Trophy since the start of the season with four goals and 10 points in 13 games.

He is minus-8 this season and has seen his ice time drop over the last 10 days.

Quebec forward Anthony Richard will make his debut with the Flyers in place of Michkov on Thursday. The 27-year-old had one goal and three points in nine games with the Boston Bruins last year.

For the Flyers, Anthony Richard will play his first game in a Philadelphia uniform Thursday night against Tampa.

To free up space in the lineup, Matvei Michkov will be removed from the lineup for the game.

Perron nears a return

Forward David Perron took part in practice for the Ottawa Senators this morning, as the team prepares to host the New York Islanders this evening at the Canadian Tire Centre.

The Quebecer has missed the last seven games for family reasons.

Perron has only played in five games since the start of the season and has not recorded any points.

He signed a two-year contract worth $8 million on July 1.

Forward Shane Pinto and defenseman Artem Zub also practiced wearing regular players’ jerseys.

Pinto has missed the last six games with an undisclosed injury. In six games this season, he scored one goal and had two assists.

Zub has not played since suffering a concussion against the Los Angeles Kings on October 14. He appeared in three games this season and did not register a point.
