After having completed the start of the preparation in Belgium, the two-week internship carried out in Atlanta in October definitively convinced Camille Laus, who “didn’t have a great year”that it was the right choice for her.

“After thirteen years spent in Jacques Borlée’s group, I wanted to change environment, to discover another way of working and also, I admit, to be far from all the Belgian-Belgian dramas”she laughs, refusing to comment on the appointment of the Dutchman Bram Peters at the head of the national relays. “Last year, with the Games in mind, I put aside my desire to devote myself to the 800m. I did it a little reluctantly but I wanted to give myself a chance and explore this discipline while daring an adventure abroad. At 31, I think it’s now or never!”

Camille Laus dreams of the 800m at the Paris Olympic Games: “But if there is a choice to make, my priority will go to the relay”

Over the course of the courses and competitions that she has taken part in in the United States during her career, Camille Laus has already been able to form a good opinion of what this country can offer her.

I have always appreciated the atmosphere that reigns in the United States.

“I wanted to play in an English-speaking group, that will be the case; and of course in the United States, the sports culture is very different from ours, it is very developed. I have always appreciated the atmosphere that reigns there in in any case and I am convinced that I will enjoy it.”

If the results follow, that would obviously be ideal. “I don’t know yet if I will play an indoor season, it will depend on how I react to training and it will be discussed with my new coach, but the big goal of the season will be qualification for the world championships in Tokyo. (Editor’s note: the minimum is 1.59.00). It won’t be easy.”

Camille Laus obviously does not forget the 4x400m relay of the Belgian Cheetahs to which she absolutely does not close the door. “I have this relay in my heartshe says. And I’m going to continue to work on my speed, it will be beneficial for my 800m anyway.”
