Sunday, on the sidelines of the inauguration of the FC Nantes Legends Tribune and the defeat against Marseille (1-2), Waldemar Kia was questioned about the sporting and economic situation of the club.
The president has leaked a few messages which could suggest that he wants to hand over control, while a few weeks ago a takeover by an investment fund, via Liverpool player Trent Alexander-Arnold, was evoked.
“The foundation serves to give the best possible image of FC Nantes, just like the communication, marketing and social media services. I try to cultivate this and whoever comes after me will perhaps use it too”said WK before reminding that his club is “in a delicate economic and sporting situation”.
On Kombouaré’s situation: “I hope I leave sooner than him”
“It worries me a lot, he pressed, I've been saying this for several months. Today, keeping players is difficult, keeping a coach is super difficult. Everyone is demanding and what's more, mentalities and state of mind have changed. I have to adapt to the economic and sporting situation. Today, I am very afraid of the future because managing a football club is extremely expensive. I'm doing stupid things, surely, but I accept that, you can't blame me for that. »
Will the president decide to part ways with Antoine Kombouaré if the series of bad results (seven consecutive matches without success) continues? Is the Nantes coach threatened?
« No, he's not weakened, says the businessman, and I hope I leave sooner than him! » he concluded with a burst of laughter.
