Winner of the Formula 1 Brazilian Grand Prix on Sunday, ahead of the French from Alpine Renault Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly, Max Verstappen (Red Bull Racing) put an end to a rare drought. The three-time winner of the world championship had not registered his name on the list since June 23, and his triumph at the Spanish GP in Barcelona.
In the following ten races, he had witnessed, sometimes stunned, sometimes irritated, the victories of George Russell, Lewis Hamilton (twice), Lando Norris (twice), Charles Leclerc (twice), Oscar Piastri (twice) and Carlos Sainz.
After his success at Interlagos, he showed up with a new smile at the press conference. Once installed on the platform, he looked around the audience and was surprised not to see many British journalists there. So, before responding to the editors’ requests, he addressed them teasingly: “I have a quick question: I don’t see the British media in the room,” he noted. Have they already left for the airport or did they not know where the press conference was taking place?
In recent weeks, while the Dutchman seemed to be losing momentum and the outcome of the world championship had become uncertain, the British media believed in the chances of success of their compatriot Lando Norris (McLaren).
The joke generated some laughter in the room and made Ocon and Gasly, who were surrounding Verstappen, smile at the time of the interviews.
With 62 points ahead of Norris, three races from the end of the season, the title now seems promised to Verstappen.
