At Union Saint-Gilloise, this season has so far not been as successful as the previous ones. And even if there is time to reverse the trend, there is no longer any question of waiting.

Sébastien Pocognoli knows that he is under pressure but he also knows that he is not missing much to succeed in achieving victories. As he has explained on several occasions, his players have opportunities but they cannot make them come true.

Mirallas to the rescue

To change this, he therefore decided to call for help by integrating into his staff the man who must bring his expertise, Kevin Mirallas. As revealed by the Last Hour, the former Red Devil has been present in training for several days to advise the attackers. He was also in the stands for the Belgian Cup match against Eupen and for the championship match in Mechelen.

If we do not know the duration of his contract, his advice consists in particular of finishing exercises, which the Unionist offensive players have been lacking since the start of the season.

Duo from Liège in Brussels

Having played alongside Pocognoli at the Standard academy, Mirallas ended his playing career at the end of the 2022-2023 season and a final stint with Limassol, in Cyprus.

Aged 37, Mirallas held the position of sporting director at Aalst last season. If he responded positively to Sébastien Pocognoli’s request, he was already linked to Union Saint-Gilloise before that since his son is part of the club’s U13s.

It now remains to be seen whether the advice of the former Red Devil will bear fruit, whether against Roma in the Europa League or in the championship against Genk, two complicated matches but in which it will be necessary to score.
