This is why the CH decided to invite specialist coach Marc Bureau so that he could work on this aspect of the game with the team’s center players before Monday’s training.
Nick Suzuki, Kirby Dach, Jake Evans, Alex Newhook, Christian Dvorak and Oliver Kapanen all received valuable advice from the man who played for three seasons for the Habs, from 1995 to 1998.
Since the start of the campaign, none of CH’s center players have had a success rate on faceoffs greater than 50%. Suzuki leads the team with a rate of 49.5% while Newhook brings up the rear at 40.8%.
Never drafted, Bureau played 567 games in the National Hockey League (NHL) and was best known for his prowess in the faceoff circle. He maintained an efficiency rate of 53.4% during his career. over more than 2500 duels.
He has acted as a consultant in this facet of the game with several junior clubs for several years.
