Antwerp suffered a very painful 2-0 defeat at KRC Genk this Sunday. This allows the Limburgers to gain even more distance from their first pursuer. Vincent Janssen admitted his own mistakes.
Antwerp had a difficult afternoon this Sunday at the home of leader KRC Genk. The Great Old lost 2-0, despite several chances to take the lead in the first half.
“In the first half, we perhaps had difficulty managing their style of play,” said striker Vincent Janssen on DAZN. “But in the end we probably created the best chances, and I should have made at least one of them.”
Hrosovsky gave Limburg the lead just before the break. For Genk, it was the ideal moment to score, while for Antwerp, it was the worst moment to concede a goal. “To concede that 1-0 just before half-time was particularly difficult. These are the moments that weigh the most in a match; we should have simply gone back to the locker room with a score of 0-0. Perhaps it was that’s why we lost the game today.”
Janssen also highlights areas for improvement. “The quality of their possession was superior, they were able to find the free man in the middle of the pitch. For our part, we were too careless in our handling of the ball, regardless of where the pitch was.”
“We can see that in a big match, everything depends on the details: I have to make this opportunity a reality, and we must not concede a goal just before the break,” concludes the Dutchman.
