Several thousand people still strolled through the Vendée Globe village during the weekend. The start of this solo sailing race is scheduled for November 10. On site, visitors wait for more than two hours to get a closer look at the skippers’ boats. If entry to the site is free, inside, it’s the island of temptation! Many stands of partner companies sell their products. And on the official store, there is a lot of choice. Jackets, sweaters, t-shirts and even caps bearing the name of the race nicknamed “the Everest of the seas”. Derivative products on the history of the Vendée Globe or the skippers. Not forgetting the numerous food trucks and food stands. The credit card heats up quickly!
Great success for the mascot plush toy
The best-selling item in the village is a very cute plush toy. Adélie, the first mascot of the Vendée Globe. It’s a little penguin who holds between his wings a planet on which the skippers’ route is drawn. “It’s amazing how quickly people are buying it. The children want it immediately when they arrive at the front. And we even saw adults leaving with the stuffed animal as a souvenir.” says Vincent, a salesman from the official store.
Indeed, many parents fall for their children’s requests. Stéphanie bought it for her daughter Anna. “Even before coming, we knew we were going to leave with it because she loves stuffed animals and is a fan of the Vendée Globe.”says the mother. She and her partner will also buy a souvenir. But she also doesn’t want to spend too much money. “We’re not going to rob the store.”quips the Vendée woman ironically. Many visitors, young and old, have fallen for this soft toy made in France sold for 24.99 euros in the Vendée Globe village or on the online store.
