To everyone’s surprise, Rodri won the 2024 Ballon d’Or. The voters favored the game rather than the spectacle represented by Vinicius Jr, only second. Like many, Bixente Lizarazu, world champion in 1998, did not expect this result, especially after the results obtained by Real Madrid last season.
The Real Madrid hoped to experience a ceremony of Ballon d’Or triumphant following his victories in the Champions League, but also in the championship. It’s a failure. The Spanish club even refused to make the trip until Paris, last Monday, to protest against Vinicius Jr.’s second place.
Rodri, surprise winner
Announced as the big favorite, the player of Real Madrid fails just behind Rodri, midfielder Manchester City. The voters rewarded an important member of the Spanish selection, but also of the system of Pep Guardiola. A decision that does not displease Bixente Lizarazu, surprised nonetheless by this result.
