The Delavallée surprise

Faced with injuries to his two goalkeepers, Mohamed Koné and Théo Defourny, Rik De Mil was forced to throw a new kid into the deep end. Martin Delavallée, 20 years old, thus experienced his first tenure between the poles of Sporting. And for the occasion, the young doorman made a strong impression. During a first period clearly dominated by Cercle, Delavallée was decisive, deflecting with the tips of his gloves a curled shot from Nazinho (27th) as well as two attempts from Alan Minda (39th).

Apart from these few occasions, the game is not very exciting. Also starting for the first time, Massamba Sow is the only one to call on Maxime Delanghe in the first period with a header following a throw-in. Returning from the locker room, Daan Heymans also had the opportunity to open the scoring with a shot of his helmet, but his shot was completely missed and did not find the target.

Six minutes fatales

If Charleroi shows a better face in the second half, both offensively and defensively, clear chances are lacking. Le Cercle, in a tough moment, took the opportunity to open the score against the run of play. From the left side, Felipe Augusto made a breakthrough before serving ideally Kevin Denkeyscorer just five minutes after coming into play (1-0, 68th).

Sporting, stunned, took a second blow to the head a few minutes later. On a corner, Hannes Van der Bruggen takes advantage of the release of Lavallée’s fists to make the break with a powerful strike from distance (2-0, 74th). Rik De Mil may bring all his offensive players into play, but it is already too late. Too little dangerous, Charleroi conceded a seventh defeat in thirteen matches and darkened the short-term future of its coach.
