In recent years, Oud-Heverlee Louvain has managed to sell a number of young players and sell them at a high price. The club hopes others will follow.

Wout George, for example, is a name that is starting to resonate in Louvain. George is a 22-year-old midfielder who made his OHL debut. He was transferred to Ghent before being picked up by the Leuven club in 2022.

George gets his chance at OHL

“It was fantastic and a dream to play for our fans, because I was born in Leuven, I live in Herent and I am truly a home child. In total, I played six years – from U9 – in our training center with players like Mandela Keita. I followed the first team’s matches. I admired players like Bostock, Weuts and Raymaekers. OH Louvain is truly the club of my heart.”

During the post-match press conference, coach Oscar Garcia was delighted with George’s rise to the game. “Wouter has trained with us almost every week and you don’t notice at all that he is an U23 player. He is solid in duels and understands perfectly what we expect from him. »

Ready for what’s next?

George hopes it will go further. “That I was very enthusiastic twice? Yes, but it suits my style of play. You could say that I am a box-to-box player, because I am quite technical and I often win the ball. I’m a bit of a pit bull and I try to combine that with my skills. I always want more.”

However, the player keeps his feet on the ground. “I know like no other that in football, things can quickly go in both directions. For now, I’m still a U23 player. Football is truly lived day by day. I would like to warmly thank the U23 coach, Sascha Kotysch, for his support. He gave me the time and space I needed. I hope to stay in shape and continue to work hard.”
