Olivier Renard already knows what he has to do this winter. First, sell players to free up a budget to recruit two (or even three) well-defined profiles. One of these recruitments will be a real challenge.
Jesper Fredberg also intended to sign an additional striker. No big club in the world is happy with just two strikers in their squad, especially since one of them is not meeting expectations at the moment. Luis Vazquez, in fact, fails to convince.
A colossus in attack
Anderlecht are looking for a powerful and prolific striker. But, these profiles are generally expensive, and with a limited budget, the club will have to explore less expensive markets but offering a high level of play.
David Hubert wants to integrate a player capable of strengthening the team’s physical play, as observed at the end of the match against Club Brugge. In addition, this attacker should relieve Kasper Dolberg, thus preventing the latter from constantly fighting against several defenders. It is also likely that the 4-3-3 system, imposed under Fredberg, will be abandoned in favor of a new tactical approach.
An additional defender
Anderlecht identifies several needs to strengthen its squad this winter.
The need for an additional defender is obvious. Jan-Carlo Simic, initially scheduled for limited playing time, is in demand more than expected. In addition, Zanka does not provide the expected reinforcement. Even with the imminent return of Jan Vertonghen, at 37, he will not be able to play every match. Thus, the recruitment of an additional central defender is essential.
The club is looking for a midfielder who is taller and more robust than current profiles, capable of bringing creativity. Leander Dendoncker, a solid defensive midfielder, does not have the qualities necessary to create offensive opportunities. A creative and physical number 10 is therefore sought to energize the attack.
Sell Dreyer?
Olivier Renard, Anderlecht’s new sporting director, must first generate funds by selling players before he can recruit this winter. Among the options, selling Anders Dreyer seems the most logical. His performance last season could attract buyers, and his future playing time could decrease.
However, the club is open to selling any player for the right price. Even if talents like Mario Stroeykens are not destined to leave immediately, an attractive offer would be considered. Renard therefore has a lot of work to accomplish in two months to balance the club’s squad and finances.
