US Villefranche-du-Périgord has had the ideal start to the season in the new Regional Promotion 3. Like Eymet in the other group, it is undefeated and can therefore harbor ambitions.

Starting last year in Regional 3, the Périgord Noir club quickly took to the PR3 fold. “It’s a division that I find interesting. The level is quite balanced and, in addition, we have several derbies to play during the season,” explains Axel Cocatrice, president and player of USV.

With three victories in three matches, the Villefrancois are runners-up to Beaulieu, who played one more match (the Périgordins were exempt during the first two days). But Lanquais/Varennes and Monpazier remain in ambush just behind. “We will remain humble. We are undefeated, but we have only played three matches, tempers Cockatrice. We’re going to have a good test against Puy-l’Évêque”, Sunday November 3.

Experienced and competitive

For its second season, the club is evolving. His staff in particular, because if Philippe Collongues always takes care of the forwards, Olivier Charles preferred to take a step back. The former 13 player will remain a player and a new backline coach should arrive soon. On the player side, a dozen recruits joined the Moulinal stadium this offseason, including experienced players like former Cypriot Clément Bihan-Poudec.

Internally too, the USV is growing: “We are growing. Managers have joined us this season and I must admit that this makes things easier in the organization of the club,” adds Cockatrix. The Domme-Villefranche-du-Périgord community of communes has made minibuses available to the club for longer trips.

Enough to hope to compete in the final stages at the end of the season, a privilege offered to the first three in each group (and to the best fourth). “We’re not there yet, but it remains a goal for us. It was frustrating to stop in the Challenge play-off last year. »

Facing Puy-l’Évêque, the USV can strengthen its rank. “Victory is imperative. We only play in Regional Promotion, but we remain competitors,” concludes the president-player.
