After the obviously intense Olympics, Florent Manaudou will skip the end of the season. The swimmer makes no secret of it, he needs to take a break and is wondering about the end of his career.
Almost 34 years old (he will be on November 12), Florent Manaudou is legitimately asking questions about the end of his career. Indeed, after having pocketed two new Olympic medals this summer (in the 50m freestyle and the men's 4 x 100m medley relay) during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Frenchman needs to take a breather and will therefore miss the short course season. This is particularly why the latter will not participate in the French Championships, which begin this Thursday in Montpellier, then in the World Championships in December in Budapest. “It's difficult to motivate yourself when there is no carrot and with all the emotions to assimilate. The Paris 2024 carrot was very beautiful, it was easy. (…) The flame is a little gone for the moment,” admitted the native of Villeurbanne in particular, during an interview with L’Equipe.
Manaudou: “It’s very emotionally complicated”
“I'm not telling myself that I'm stopping because I would like to stop on something cool at the European Championships in Paris. But there, it makes no sense to do the French Championships and the World Championships. (…) It's been very complicated emotionally since the end of the Games. There was the big down when I got home obviously. (…) I feel like I'm at a crossroads in my life, the second big crossroads in my life. The first was when I stopped classes to do swimming. This is a second turn. My second life begins, Manaudou subsequently explained, about the end of his career. I don't want to stop completely, I would like to do one last season. » While waiting to find out a little more about his desires for the future, the main interested party recently took up handball with Antibes, which plays in Nationale 2.
