A year ago, the players of ES Écouves obtained their rise in Regional 3 for the first time in their history. During their difficult maintenance mission, events unfolded in a manner that was not very favorable for Christophe Dumas’ troop.

Only five wins this season

With only five successes in twenty-two matches, the results are not surprising: Écouves is back on track. In the wrong direction this time, that of the descent with a return Departmental 1. But everything is not to be thrown away for the peripheral club of Alençon. “Opponents, like Andaines, against whom we lost 3-1, often told us that they did not understand why we were last. How astonishing it was,” expresses Cédric Durand, president of ES Écouves.

When taking stock, the president notes: “There were pivotal moments. Like at La Ferté-Macé, for example, where we had one suspended and three injured. We were forced to draw from team B. Some of the injured didn’t even come back. »

The reserve rises to D2

If A goes down, team B, entered in D3, has obtained its promotion to D2. “The boys have only lost once this season. The objective was to move up to D2. Already, last year, we finished second best, but the overhaul of the championships prevented us from being promoted. » In 2024-2025, Écouves will have training in D1 and another in D2.

Coach Christophe Dumas leaves

In terms of the calendar, he remembers it as if it were yesterday: “Until the end of December, it wasn’t great. Afterwards, we managed to have two or three victories in a row. » What could be frustrating, in the analysis, is that the players had “fairly accomplished matches”.

And for next season? The objective will not necessarily be to immediately move up to R3, but rather to “stay in D1”. “I want to know what the squad will be before I decide. You have to stay humble. »

Next season will be without Christophe Dumas on the bench. Former historic player and coach, he leaves the club. “We want to thank him for everything he has done. It’s been five years since he returned to the club to help,” greets Cédric Durand.

Another change: Ecouves players will wear a new jersey next season. The Black Bear, a bar in Alençon, took on an adventure. “The manager is quite close to the players because they often stop at his establishment. Is it a helping hand and, perhaps, the start of a long partnership? »
