“When the court is slow and heavy, it’s not ideal for me,” he said after his victory. “I’m a hard-hitting player and I always try to be extremely aggressive, which is not easy, but I think I hit the ball very well. I may have made a few mistakes here and there, but I knew that David was an extraordinary player, an opponent who gave me a lot of difficulties in the past. This was seen again in the first set. I wasn’t comfortable sometimes. I am very happy to have been able to win, as well as with the level of tennis I displayed. »

Winner of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Rome, and ranked among the favorites for the title in Paris, Alexander Zverev was also happy to have been able to benefit from two days of rest after his victory in the first round against Rafael Nadal (ATP 275).

“There was so much nervous tension and media interest around this match, given that he won here fourteen times, that when I beat him, I felt like I had already won the tournament,” he smiled. “At the end of the day, it was just the first round. So we had to refocus, because there are two weeks left. These two days did me good, because they allowed me to digest these emotions, to return to calm and to get back to work to ensure that I played good tennis. And I hope I can continue like this. »
