On December 1st, Juan Martin del Potro will challenge “Nole” in “The Ultimate Challenge.”

Former world number one and record holder for the number of Grand Slam titles Novak Djokovic, 37, and Argentine Juan Martin del Potro, former ATP number 3, 35, will face off in an exhibition match on December 1 in Buenos Aires, the event organizers announced on Thursday.

Djokovic, currently ranked number four in the ATP, will take part in the match, named The Ultimate Challenge, which will be held at the 15,500-seat Mary Teran de Weiss stadium in Parque Roca.

Del Potro and Djokovic have faced each other 20 times on the professional circuit, the Serbian has 16 victories. The Argentine, who has never officially announced his retirement, played his last official match in February 2022 in Buenos Aires.

“I always felt like this wouldn’t be the end of my career. I feel like I still have something in store. This will be the last challenge I’ve been waiting for.”said the 2009 US Open winner.

During his career, Djokovic has won 24 Grand Slam tournaments and this summer in Paris he won the only title he was missing, the gold medal at the Olympic Games. Del Potro has had two notable victories against “Nole”: at the London Olympics in 2012, when he won the bronze medal, and then at the Rio Games four years later, where he beat him in the first round.
