CTHB: 31
CPB Rennes: 28

CTHB needed a victory combined with a defeat or a draw from its direct opponent Colombelles, at the same time to stay in N1. If the Chambraisiennes first did the job on Saturday, by overthrowing CPB Rennes in a very good way, they then learned of Colombelles’ victory against Harnes (28-26), which led to their relegation.

A timid CTHB in the first act

Even if the Chambraisiennes were eye-catching at the start of the match (4-4, 5e), they never knew how to tip the scales in their favor when they could and were stifled by the CPB Rennes. The Rennaises quickly made the break thanks to the power of their rear (6-8, 10e). The interruption of the meeting following the injury of Saramito (12e) did not change anything in its appearance since CPB Rennes always took advantage of CTHB’s errors. The Chambraisiennes never managed to really worry their opponents in the evening and were always in the reaction instead of the action, in the first period.

Victory was not enough

But a timeout came to change everything during the second period, while the CTHB was still two lengths behind (19-21, 38e). The wingers started the Chambraisian march forward by equalizing, before Rangier put his team in front with a sudden shot (23-22, 43e). The CTHB had just completely overthrown the Rennaises. In front of Ultras on fire, the Chambraisiennes inflicted a 5-1 on CPB Rennes to take the break a quarter of an hour from the end (25-23, 46e).

Joubert also joined in the fun in the goals by making a masterful one-on-one save to preserve the score (26-24, 49e). If Rangier impressed, it was Nina Brkljacic who was undoubtedly at the origin of this Chambraisian success, with seven goals scored. The usual assistant coach put on the jersey this Saturday to help her team. Her performance transcended her teammates. But not enough to stay in N1.

Samir Bounadja, coach of Chambray : “We alternated between rather good and less good phases, we had a little air gap. But we quickly knew how to get back together. The goalkeeper (Joubert) made some great saves and that allowed us to stay afloat and then be able to get this victory. I think we went for it with guts because today, we must not forget that they are fourth. They’re a very good team who kept giving us problems, suddenly going 3-2-1, then 0-6. I’m very proud of the group, we gave everything. We had no other choice than to bring in Nina Brkljacic to calm down and stabilize the group. We must not forget that the players have an average age of 20 years. They tend to do everything quickly and panic. Nina’s contribution helps stabilize everything. »
