The international break put a pause on the hectic pace of the championship and after seven days, LOSC can have great ambitions. At least that is the point of view of the statistical data.
Since the start of the season, LOSC has faced seven opponents in Ligue 1 McDonald’s, from AS Saint-Étienne to Paris Saint-Germain, for four victories, one draw and two defeats recorded. This total allows the Mastiffs to be in fifth position, with thirteen points on the clock, six less than the Monegasque leader, their next opponent in the championship. The Principality club is only the start of a Dantesque calendar, which will allow them to truly gauge themselves over time. But then, how can we plan for the future of events? What does the data say about this?
To do this, the Opta company’s “supercomputer” carried out a simulation of all the matches of the season 10,000 times, and deduced a potential final ranking based on the most frequent results. At the top of the ranking, it is obviously Paris Saint-Germain who are the huge favorites with a 75.65% chance of succeeding themselves, and therefore winning the title of French champion for the fourth time in a row. Only Monaco can fight for the moment with 21.31%, well ahead of Olympique de Marseille and its 1.71%.
Concerning LOSC, its placement oscillates between third and fifth place, with the highest percentage for the last place on the podium (21.6%), the one which nevertheless seems destined for the Marseille team (27.7%) . This small gap is a sign that the two teams are very close in terms of the data recorded. The Mastiffs also have a 20.7% chance of finishing the season at the foot of the podium, like last season, and 16% of settling for the Top 5.
If we refer to its data, the main competitors of the Lille team led by Bruno Genesio are none other than Olympique de Marseille, RC Lens and Olympique Lyonnais. In the fight in previous seasons, Stade Brestois, OGC Nice and Stade Rennais are not considered, for the moment, to be serious threats, nor are Stade de Reims, although fourth at the end of the first seven days championship.
