The Athletic redoes the order of the 2023 draft a year later

We will remember a little over a year ago when the Canadian had the 5th overall pick after a year of misery.

While the vast majority of fans were hoping to see Kent Hughes and his scouts get their hands on a striker with big offensive hope, like Matvei Michkov for example, it is ultimately the right-handed defender David Reinbacher which was selected.

Many were unhappy with this choice.

A year later, Michkov has already made his NHL debut while Reinbacher was supposed to start the year in the American League but will miss the entire season due to knee surgery. Nothing to help the supporters stay calm with our choice.

But, as the hopes expert explained, Charles Pellerin, Reinbacher’s potential is still high .

Today, the analyst and expert in hopes Corey Pronman of The Athletic proceeded with the exercise of redoing the order of the 2023 draft with what we now know.

Here is the result of the Top-15

  • 1. CONNOR BEDARD – C (1er – Chicago)
  • 2. ADAM FANTILLI – C (3e – Columbus)
  • 3. LEO CARLSSON – C (2e – Anaheim)
  • 4. MATVEI MICHKOV – AD (7e – Philadelphia)
  • 5. WILL SMITH – C (4e – San Jose)
  • 6. NATE DANIELSON – C (9e – Detroit)
  • 7. DMITRY SIMASHEV – D (6e – Utah)
  • 8. RYAN LEONARD – AD (8e – Washington)
  • 9. GABE PERREAULT – AD (23e – NYRangers)
  • 10. DANIEL BUT – AG (12e – Utah)
  • 11. AXEL SANDIN-PELLIKKA – D (17e – Detroit)
  • 12. ZACH BENSON – AG (13e – Buffalo)
  • 13. CALUM RITCHIE – C (27e – Colorado)
  • 14. DAVID EDSTROM – C (32e – San jose)
  • 15. DAVID REINBACHER – D (5th – Montreal)

We will of course suspect that this ranking will not suit the Canadiens’ fans, while the explosive attacker Matvei Michkov moved from 7th to 4th, while defender David Reinbacher for its part tumbled from 5th place to 15th. In addition, he finds himself, in the eyes of Pronman, as the third best defender of the vintage, behind Dmitry Simashev et Axel Sandin-Pellikka.

Did the Canadian make a mistake by selecting Reinbacher over Michkov?

We discuss it in the most recent episode of PoolCast. See the link at the bottom.
