Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin reached a new plateau in his career on Saturday, despite his team’s 4-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Russian recorded his 1300th point in the NHL by collecting an assist, his second of the match, on a goal from Rickard Rakell in the third period.
Malkin became the third active player to accomplish such a feat, after his teammate Sidney Crosby (1,599 points) and his compatriot Alexander Ovechkin (1,551 points).
Thursday, against the Detroit Red Wings, Geno
had also reached the plateau of 800 career assists.
The former Penguins first-round pick, second overall in 2004, already has an extensive track record. He played 1,148 games in the season, 177 in the playoffs, in addition to having won the Calder, Art-Ross (twice), Conn-Smythe, Hart, and Ted-Lindsay trophies.
He also won the Stanley Cup three times with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
