Goalie Cayden Primeau had a disastrous start to the season on Thursday evening.

The American gave up six goals on 29 shots in a 6-4 loss to the Boston Bruins.

In his “The Coliseum” segment of the show JiCTony Marinaro declared that it is Rocket goaltender Jakub Dobes who deserves to be Samuel Montembeault’s replacement for the Habs.

“The problem is not that the Canadiens played their second goalie yesterday [jeudi]but they don’t have a second goalkeeper at the moment,” he said.

«Il [Primeau] at 25 years old. He’s not young anymore. […] Dobes was better than him during training camp and I’m going to go even further: Dobes is better than him, period!”

Marinaro and Jean-Charles Lajoie mentioned that the Canadiens were afraid of losing Primeau on waivers last year, which led to the menage a trois with Montembeault and Jake Allen. The host wondered if CH still had the same fear this season, despite Primeau’s failures.

“They don’t want to lose him for nothing,” Marinaro simply replied.

Primeau is currently beginning his second straight season in the National League. Last year, he played 23 games in front of the Sainte-Flanelle net. He maintained an 8-9-4 record, a .910 save percentage and a 2.99 goals-against average.

With the Rocket in 2023-2024, Dobes posted figures of .906 and 2.93 in 51 games. He also maintained a record of 24-18-6.
