Does a historic suspension threaten Génération Foot?

The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) could soon make an unprecedented decision in the history of Senegalese professional football. Génération Foot is at the center of a controversy which could lead to its suspension from competition.

It all started with a letter dated August 14, where the FSF responded to Mady Touré, the president of Génération Foot. He had requested the inclusion of an item on the agenda of the ordinary general meeting of September 21. His request concerned the decision of the Executive Committee to withdraw the approval of the Djibril Diagne stadium in Déni Birame Ndao, as well as the Fodé Wade stadium in Diambars in Saly. The request was refused by the FSF, citing the fact that decisions had already been rendered and executed by the competent authorities.

The FSF recalled that clubs have the possibility of contesting decisions via internal appeals or before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Génération Foot, however, did not use these remedies but chose to take the matter to the Supreme Court. This approach is considered a violation of FIFA, CAF and FSF regulations, which prohibit the submission of football disputes to civil courts.

Consequently, the Deputy SG of the FSF indicated that this matter will be submitted to the Executive Committee for consideration at its next meeting. Possible sanctions include temporary suspension or even disbarment.

According to certain sources, Génération Foot and its president could be suspended for two years. Such a decision could benefit Stade de Mbour, which contested its relegation to Ligue 2 before the CAS. This could recall the case of US Ouakam, reinstated in the middle of the championship after a favorable decision by the CAS.
