At the start of the Canadian’s campaign, one player is certainly disappointed to be missing: defender Jayden Struble, bothered by a lower body injury.

During the “La Mise en check” segment of the show JiCWednesday, TVA Sports journalist Renaud Lavoie provided some details on what led to the team’s choice to place the skater on the sidelines in anticipation of the inaugural clash against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

“He absolutely wanted to play tonight’s game and be on the Canadiens’ starting lineup. But yesterday at training you saw his face. He was grimacing a lot. It’s a lower body injury. Skating was difficult, he just wasn’t able to push. After each exercise, there were a lot of grimaces,” said Lavoie.

The latter added that the club made the right decision in this case. Struble retired to the locker room after about twenty minutes. His condition is assessed daily and we will have to see what the CH intends to do. But according to Lavoie, for the moment, no recall from the Rocket is planned. The situation could obviously change if a defender fell in combat.
