The Swiss Football League (SFL) is proposing Peter Knäbel as a candidate for president of the Swiss Football Association (ASF). The current president, Dominique Blanc, will leave his post in May 2025.

The SFL committee unanimously nominated Peter Knäbel (58) to run for president. He sees in him the ideal man to continue the development of Swiss football and its professionalization. Representing the interests of all clubs and strengthening the promotion of young talents are other elements that the candidate will support.

Dual Swiss and German national, Peter Knäbel, who lives in Solothurn, has extensive experience in football. He ended his playing career in 1999 by securing Winterthur’s promotion to the LNB while he was player-coach.

As a manager, he was notably technical director then head of the succession sector at FC Basel, before heading the technical department of the ASF from 2009 to 2014. He also then worked in Germany in various functions at SV Hamburg, VfB Stuttgart and Schalke 04.

Peter Knäbel is the second candidate for the post of president that Dominique Blanc will leave at the end of his second term. The first is Sandro Stroppa (54 years old), current president of the ASF Amateur League. Just like Dominique Blanc, his predecessor Peter Gilliéron, in office from 2009 to 2019), also came from amateur football.
