At 30, after winning 17 tournaments including one Grand Slam, being a finalist twice at Roland Garros, once at the Australian Open, Dominic Thiem decided to put tennis behind him.
Currently 117th in the world ranking, Dominic Thiem has never managed to return to the level he was in 2020. That year, the Austrian won the US Open and found himself in 3rd place in the world behind the two legends, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.

But a wrist injury in 2021 hampered his rise. For three years now, this pain has persisted and prevented him from being in full possession of his means.
“The 2024 season will be my last, I have decided to end my career”, he announced on his social networks this Friday, May 10 before explaining his choice which he considers “carefully considered”. His wrist injury is one of the main reasons for his withdrawal.

At a press conference in Rome, Novak Djokovic spoke about the man he faced 13 times (8 victories for the Serbian; 5 for the Austrian): “He’s a great guy, a very good person, someone “one who always took the time to say hello and always showed respect. He is a great example of someone who never gives up after difficult times.”

Dominic Thiem will retire at the end of the season, around the end of October.
