Following Hérouville’s appeal regarding the reservation made by Mézidon, the French Football Federation decided to replay the match from the 14th day. A clash at the top of the table between two competitors climbing into Regional 1. The initial match saw SC Hérouville win 2-0 over USCM. Hérouville, the leader, had everything to lose this Thursday, May 9, 2024 by welcoming Mézidon, third in the group. A high-stakes match which ended with a draw (1-1), putting an end to Hérouville’s good series.

Two teams with respondent

The first danger is brought by a free kick from Yoann Lebastard, number 10 of the USCM, who sends the ball into a dangerous area, but the Hérouville defense manages the situation well and wards off the danger. You didn’t have to wait long to see the first goal of this match. On a Mézidonnais possession which could have turned into an opportunity, the Hérouville goalkeeper anticipates a pass that is too long and clears far. So far that Mézidon’s defense is surprised and Lokman El Arabi, well placed, recovers and serves Selim Batbout who opens the scoring with a cross strike (11′, 1-0). The match scenario seems to be turning in favor of Hérouville but it is necessary more to disrupt the USCM.

A few minutes after the opening score, Luca Marie found Jordan Stum in the area, so that as a good finisher, he came get your team back in the game (17′, 1-1). Despite a close match, the two teams did not hesitate to attack. Yoann Lebastard took the opportunity to score the 2-1, but that’s without counting on Kerim Ozdemir who let his leg drag to win this one-on-one (31′). We start again on the other side, with Hérouville in the opposing camp who cannot get into the box, the solution remains to strike from afar and it is done. However, Lucas Lerebours repels the locals’ good attempt (34′).

A match that gets carried away

The second period starts strong with the supporters of SC Hérouville who put give voice to the platform to galvanize their team. In a close match, set pieces are crucial. Mézidon illustrates this perfectly with a corner executed by number 10, deflected by the goalkeeper into the feet of Roman Corfmat, on the verge of scoring (54′). It only takes one goal for the match to change dimension, the two teams play in rapid transition without having any real big chances. Again on a free kick, Jordan Stum, tries his luck halfway up, without anyone to touch it, the ball misses the Hérouville goalkeeper who had remained vigilant (67′).

As the end of the match looms, Hérouville invades the opposing camp and multiplies the offensives, but the Mézidonnais defense mastered its subject by repelling each opposing attempt. Anthony Boutamine takes his free kick into the area, a little happy, Sofian Ghalmi finds himself alone at the penalty spot, the ball at his feet, and as if he doesn’t know what to do with it, he gives the defender time to Mézidon to come and counter him (89′). Hérouville pushes until the end, leaving no last opportunity to Mézidon who manages to maintain the score at 1-1.

“It slows us down in our dynamic”

Éric Fouda, coach of SC Hérouville recognizes that “ Mézidon played his luck bravely » and that despite everything “the draw remains logical, there were not many chances in this match”. One of the factors to take into account was that this match was played during a long weekend, which led to some absences on the Hérouville side. The observation is simple for Éric Fouda: “it slows us down in our dynamic, we will have to whip againthere are two matches left, it’s not done mathematically.”

With this draw, Mézidon remains in the race for advancement before facing Argentan this Sunday and Alençon on May 26. On paper, the task promises to be difficult for Hérouville, who will have to face Dives-Cabourg this Sunday, before going to the second in the standings, Dover, on the last day. Hérouville is five points ahead of Mézidon, third, and Dover, awaiting the verdict of the ASPTT Caen reserve against the JSD.
