Ligue 1 – Hard blow for Brest: victim of a fractured fibula, Pierre Lees-Melou will not play again this season

Stade Brestois midfielder Pierre Lees-Melou suffers from a fractured fibula and will not play again this season, Bretons coach Eric Roy announced on Thursday. “End of season marked for him, he is the victim of a fractured fibula, he will be operated on this week”explained the coach during the press conference before the match against Reims, Friday, for the 33rd day of Ligue 1.

“It’s hard for him and for the group, he has all our support. We hope he will be fit to resume this summer”, Roy added. Lees-Melou, who had already been unable to train normally before the match against Nantes (0-0), last Sunday, came out during the first period against the Canaries.

For the match against Reims, capital in the race for Europe where the Brestois, currently 3rd in Ligue 1, hope to obtain direct qualification for the group stage of the Champions League, the Finisterians will also be deprived of Romain del Castillo, their right winger. “Romain has resumed jogging. He will not play tomorrow against Reims, but we have a small hope that he will participate in the last match of the season against Toulouse. We will see his progress”, indicated the technician. Brest will also have to do without Kamory Doumbia, the Malian attacking midfielder loaned by Reims to Brest.
