The Quebec government will announce, on Monday, an investment of more than $3 million to strengthen ambulance coverage in Montérégie-Centre, Lanaudière and Outaouais.

Five zones, including Varennes, La Prairie and Joliette, will benefit from this investment which will add service hours, which will help reduce response times.

“What happens, generally speaking, is that there is often an increase in the need for coverage. So there are often more calls in these ambulance zones, in recent years, which require adding resources or there could also be issues related to response times on certain priorities which require that we add resources,” explains Paul Lévesque, director of pre-hospital emergency services at the Ministry of Health.

In total, approximately 15,000 hours can be added in the five zones.

Currently, the average response time for an emergency in the province is 11 minutes and 25 seconds.
