The Olympic flame arrived for the first time on French soil on Wednesday, aboard the French three-masted ship “Belem” off the coast of Marseille, less than three months before the start of the 2024 edition of the Olympic Games. in Paris (July 26 – August 11).

Lit in Greece on April 16, the flame arrived in France, 79 days before the opening ceremony of the Paris Games, and it was Marseille and its Old Port which were chosen for this event which should bring together around 150,000 spectators in the Marseille city.

The ship will enter the Old Port of France’s second city at 7:00 p.m. (local time). Florent Manaudou, Olympic swimming champion in 2012, will be the first bearer of the flame, who will land on a floating athletics track installed for the occasion.

A significant law enforcement system (8,500 people on site) is deployed for the occasion in order to avoid any overflow.

The Olympic flame will arrive in the West of France on May 28, in Angers, and will leave on June 7, from Brest, before going to Overseas and ending its journey on July 26 in Paris , day of the opening ceremony.
