In Ifrane, the Ras El Ma site will be given a makeover

The Ifrane Provincial Council has just launched a call for tenders for the carrying out of an architectural study and the monitoring of ecotourism development work on the Ras El Ma site, as part of the development of the Ifrane national park. The planned cost for these services is set at 30 million of DH.

Perched on a hill overlooking the basins of the National Center for Hydrobiology and Pisciculture, the Ras El Ma site, extending over an area of ​​approximately 70 hais located in the heart of the Ifrane national park at an altitude of 1,600m, near springs and cedar groves. Amazigh traditions are present there: breeding, weaving, folklore, equestrian art and culinary art, and other components of local life in the Middle Atlas.

A space dedicated to fish farming and research

According to the documents relating to this consultation, the project provides for the creation of a organic pavilion which will be used not only for fish farming but also for ecological research, by monitoring water quality and participating in the conservation of aquatic ecosystems. Additionally, a aquarium will be designed to offer an immersive educational experience, while a ecomuseum will highlight the history and techniques of fish farming through time.

The installation of a pavilion dedicated to the activities of fish farming will allow visitors to learn fishing and fish farming techniques. This educational component will be accompanied by a modern layout of the site, including a new lakegreen spaces, parkingof the picnic areas as well as a refreshment bar.

Development of hiking trails and environmental conservation

The project goes beyond fish farming by providing spaces for hikes, marathons and equestrian trails, in order to offer a complete experience to visitors. Of the marked trailsof the rest areas and points d’eau potable will be installed for the comfort of hikers. Furthermore, infrastructures specific to equestrian activities, such as equestrian stopsof the paddocks and picnic areas, will be fitted out, with attachment points for horses and water troughs.

The project also takes into account the environmental protectionby integrating measures to preserve local biodiversity and by raising visitor awareness through interpretive panels along the trails.

Athletics track: a space dedicated to sports performance

The Ras El Ma site offers a conducive environment for the training of high-level athletes. In order to optimize this space already coveted by internationally renowned athletes, the project provides for several developments:

  • Natural athletics track : Suitable for all seasons, this track will offer athletes a unique environment to train on natural surfaces, allowing a smooth transition between different seasons.
  • Course in a natural environment : Hiking trails in the undergrowth and grass fields will complete the installation, allowing athletes to enjoy a natural setting while training.
  • Athletics ring : This equipment will allow you to work on a precise space, with clear distance markers and surfaces offering ideal cushioning qualities. This ring will be particularly useful for group management and VMA (maximum aerobic speed) training.
  • Additional spaces : Around the track, a sheltered space equipped with benches and display areas will offer users a place to rest and consult documents relating to their performances.

These facilities, equipped with permanent markings, will allow coaches and athletes to maximize the effectiveness of their sessions, while integrating athletics into the natural setting offered by Ras El Ma.

Development of panoramic and fun spots

To complete this approach dedicated to sporting performances, several fun and panoramic developments are planned in order to attract a wider audience:

  • The viewpoints : Observation platforms will be installed at strategic points to offer breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes. These viewpoints will be designed to comfortably accommodate several visitors while guaranteeing their safety.
  • Star Observatory : Take advantage of the clarity of the park’s skies to build an observatory dedicated to the observation of stars and astronomical phenomena. This site will be a major asset for astronomy enthusiasts.
  • Activity platforms around the park : Several spaces will be dedicated to outdoor activities, including a fitness park, group activities such as soft archery and the soft tomahawkas well as facilities for aquatic activities such as waterslide. The more adventurous can also enjoy ziplining by bike, as well as aerial sports such as paragliding or bungee jumping.

Furthermore, the Ifrane provincial council launched a second call for tenders, this time for the production of an architectural study and the monitoring of ecotourism development work on the Cedraie Sahb site.

The project site is located on an area of ​​approximately 70 ha (40 ha for the Gouraud cedar and 30 ha for the Moudmam site).

Gouraud cedar development and development project

The Gouraud cedar site development project is structured around several components aimed at preserving this emblematic tree while enhancing its environment through adapted, sustainable and attractive installations. Here are the main points of this ambitious initiative.

1. Safeguarding and promoting the Gouraud cedar

One of the main objectives of this project is to preserve the Gouraud cedar through an innovative process, providing plus-value to its environment. Harmonious landscaping will be put in place, integrating cedar into a space that respects its ecosystem.

A natural monument of the Ifrane-Azrou region, the Gouraud cedar, whose age is estimated at 900 years, represents the most visited attraction.

2. Development of an access plaza

Access to the site will be facilitated by the development of a esplanade dedicated to visitors, with pedestrian pathsof the relaxation areas and of plantation. To guarantee the safety and orientation of visitors, guardrail and one clear signage will be installed, as well as public lighting and ansanitation modern.

3. Creation of a space to promote Gouraud cedar

A specific space will be dedicated to the development of cedar with the strengthening of its structure and an area of protection allowing visitors to admire the tree without damaging it. Additionally, a museum and exhibition gallery on the history and importance of cedar will be created, accompanied by sanitary and a souvenir shop.

4. Development of craft shops and local products

The project also provides for the construction of businesses intended to promote local crafts and local products. A shopping plaza with pedestrian paths will be developed, also offering dining areas and sanitary.

5. Provision of parking and access to the site

In order to facilitate access to the site, a parking and a main portal will be built, accompanied by street furnitured’lighting and of signage. These infrastructures will be designed with a view to integrating with the surrounding landscape.

6. Creation of recreational and discovery spaces

Of the children’s play areasof the picnic areas and a forest discovery trail will be developed around the site, allowing visitors to fully enjoy the surrounding nature. This trail, suspended or following the natural relief, will offer an immersive experience in the heart of the forest.

7. Reorganization of equestrian, mountain biking and hiking activities

Equestrian and outdoor activities will be reorganized with the construction ofhorse sheltersof billetteriesof changing rooms and of sanitary adapted. A area dedicated to mountain bikes will also be set up to welcome off-road cycling enthusiasts.

8. Execution of drilling and hydraulic installations

Finally, the project includes the creation of a forage to supply the site with water, accompanied by a water cover and a solar pumpthus guaranteeing sustainable management of hydraulic resources.
